Material Chemist

Location: Burnaby, British Columbia

Svante is a rapidly growing clean energy technology company making commercial-scale carbon capture and removal a reality and enabling global industries to play offense in the fight against climate change.

We are looking for a Material chemist with a very high level of expertise in Metal-Organic Framework (MOF) or other organic porous sorbents at R&D centre of excellence of Svante located at Burnaby (near Vancouver), BC, Canada.

This MOF chemist takes personal responsibility that, at all times, he/she represents Svante Goals and Values to internal and external customers and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Conduct experimental research in the field of MOF development for carbon capture application
  •  Conduct sorbent characterization (XRD, SEM, FTIR, BET, PSD, TGA, …)
  • Participate in MOF scale up package transfer to manufacturing group for ton scale
  • Participate in designing new MOF molecules for CO2 capture application
  • Present the obtained results in written and oral form by means of technical reports, publications, and patents.
  • Assist in external material development collaborations
  • Participate in weekly and monthly meetings and seminars.

Key Qualifications:

  • MSc or PhD (is preferred) in Chemistry/material chemistry/organic chemistry, chemical engineering or other relevant majors with at least 3 years working experience in academic labs or industry’s labs
  • Strong background in adsorption processes and sorbent chemistry and various MOF syntheses methods (Hydrothermal/Solvothermal, mechanochemical, …)
  • Experience with DVS, TGA, ASAP2020, FTIR, SEM, XRD characterization techniques
  • Knowledge of computational molecular modeling such as GCMC simulation, Ab Initio Calculations or other methods are an asset but not required.
  • Knowledge of crystallography is an asset but not required
  • Critical thinking skills and good judgment, adaptable to change and comfortable with broad targets
  • Ability to work well with cross-functional teams and diverse groups of stakeholders
  • High level of initiative
  • Good time management, with ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Excellent analytical skills with ability to make sound recommendations
  • Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills in English
