The Role of Machine Structures Leader Level Reports to: Director of Plant Process Engineering

The Rotary Adsorbent Machine (RAM) structure is the framework from which all of the RAM sub-systems are suspended and located. The design of the RAM structure is critical to the success of a Svante carbon capture system and is therefore designated as a core center of competency.
The Machine Structures Leader (MSL) has delivery responsibility for the structural design of Svante RAM’s. The MSL will have an excellent knowledge of materials, structures, manufacturing and joining techniques from traditional to leading edge technologies.
The MSL will recruit, develop and lead a team that will capture customer and sub-system requirements for the RAM structure and create and evaluate potential concept solutions using state of the art analysis and simulation techniques. Under the guidance of the Machine Product Manager and in collaboration with the Core Product Technology Leader the other technology group centers of competency, the MSL will evolve concept designs into prototype and production designs using a combination of simulation and physical testing. The MSL will take ultimate responsibility for the validation sign off of the RAM structure.
Working within the framework of Svante Values and Goals the MSL and team will be responsible to deliver all technical data required for scoping, development, design, manufacture and implementation of RAM’s. The MSL will be responsible to ensure that this technical data is delivered in the form of technology packages to machine development teams to meet project requirements.
In collaboration with the Research and Development team and the Process team, the Machine Structures Lead will be responsible for establishing requirements for the various classes of RAM’s.
The Machine Structures Lead will supply engineers and technology packages directly to the Ram Product Leads (RPL’s) and will take sign-off responsibility for these packages.
As resource to the RPL, the Machine Structures team will translate the core product technology designs into manufacturing drawings and documentation with qualified fabrication partners/suppliers and manage the supply chain to deliver RAM projects.
Together with Supply Chain and the RPL, the Machine Structures team will control and manage the suppliers of components and sub-system machine parts and manage the build, integration and testing of the RAM at the machine manufacturers site (Factory Acceptance Tests).
The MSL will control and manage design for manufacture, assembly, and all aspects of verification for RAM machines.
The Machine Structures Team will create service documentation, and in coordination with the RPL train customer service personnel and support machine breakdowns within the warranty period and, potentially, beyond as a revenue and profit centre.
The MSL takes personal responsibility for the morale of their development team and ensures that the team at all times represents Svante Goals and Values to internal and external customers and suppliers.

With input of the Machine Division and other business areas, identify areas of key technical competency required for Svante Rotary Adsorbent Machines to successfully meet current and future requirements – the Technology Competency Plan (TCP).
Deliver Engineering and Technology Packages and resources (ETP) to the Machine Division within agreed targets and requirements.
Identify staffing and resources required for the Machine Structures Team in order to deliver the ETP & TCP.
Manage Machine Structures staff to support the efficient and effective delivery of the ETP & TCP.
Develop and maintain a risk register for RAM structures.
Develop qualification methodologies for RAM structures. (DVPsoR, FMEA, PFMEA)
Qualify materials, designs and methodologies for RAM implementations.
When working with external customers the MSL will create and manage the RAM product document set including (not limited to):
RAM structures project plan from KO to installation on customer site including SAT sign-off.

Experience: At least 15 years of technology development in a leadership role within rapidly growing new technology fields. Ideally this should be within technologies similar to Svante.
Proven experience of advancing technology and teams from an immature to advanced state is highly desirable.
Knowledge: Excellent grasp of first principles in mechanical engineering, fluid dynamics and thermodynamics.
Attitude: Must naturally espouse Svante values and believe in our Goals and Objectives.
Education: Engineering to, at least, degree level.
